The custom-built, state-of-the-art facility is being developed on a high visibility site across Century Boulevard from the recently completed Colosseum development which offers convenience retailing and a variety of top eateries.
The new club, which is being developed at a cost of more than R60m and constructed by Stabilid (Cape), is due to open its doors in October this year.
Plentiful parking on an adjacent site will be available.
Greg Deans, a director of Rabie Property Group, said one of the most frequently asked questions by stakeholders at Century City was when a health club would be opening.
“Although a number of the residential and commercial developments at Century City do have their own boutique gyms it has become abundantly clear that a health club environment as offered by Virgin Active is fulfilling a major component of the third dimension (leisure activities) in people’s lives.
“I am totally convinced that the health club will have strong support from the local Century City family – there are currently more than 35 000 living and working here – and because of its centrality and close proximity to the N1 we expect it will also be well frequented by commuters and people from neighbouring suburbs,” he said.
Deans said the gym was located in a growing precinct close to a number of amenities.
“In addition to the convenience retailing and restaurants at the neighbouring Colosseum, Century City’s measured walking and jogging trails will start and terminate in close proximity to the health club providing an additional attraction for members.”
Anton Brown, national Marketing Manager of Virgin Active South Africa said Century City was a hive of activity with almost every conceivable amenity residents could possibly need right on their doorstep.
“And now they can look forward to a state-of-the-art Exercise and Wellness Club as well.”
He said the new Century City Virgin Active, which would offer top-class fitness facilities and relaxation areas, would be “opening its doors to a whole new concept in exercise, where health and wellness reign supreme”.
“Great things can be expected from the new Century City Virgin Active, from its dynamic interior features to its friendly and expertly trained staff – this Club needs to be experienced first-hand to fully understand what it will have to offer.”
Facilities, he said, would include an exciting kids’ “club-within-a-club”, called Club-V Max, where kids will get the chance to enjoy some great age-appropriate exercise classes, make friends and have fun while learning about the benefits of staying fit and healthy.
“There will also be brand new equipment from Technogym, where the cardio range will keep you entertained while you train with its integrated TV screen offering multiple DSTV channels while its fan will ensure that you feel cool and comfortable while you work out.
“In addition there will also be a whole range of strength equipment that has been specially designed to ensure that you don’t damage your joints. If you’re not that keen on working out on the training floor – the Easy Zone will provide a secluded space where you can enjoy a fast and proven method of training in just 30 minutes,” he said.
Brown said over and above a pristine indoor heated pool, saunas and challenging spin classes, other facilities that would be available to members included Power Plate, Kinesis, Yoga, tai chi and pilates classes.
He said members would also be able to grab a healthy snack at the Kauai Health Food and Juice Company in the complex and complimentary Internet stations would be available to allow members to browse the web before heading home. Members will also be able to track their key health measurements, like blood pressure and body fat percentage at the Virgin Life Care HealthZones that will be available.
