The value of building plans passed by South Africa's larger municipalities went up by 13.1%

The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at current prices) during the first ten months of 2006 increased by 13.1% - or 6.94 billion rand - compared with the first ten months of 2005, slowing from 14.0% for the year to September 2006 compared with the year to September 2005, Statistics South Africa said.
 
The largest percentage increase was reported for non-residential buildings (+35.4%), followed by additions and alterations (+9.9%) and residential buildings (+8.4%).
 
Stats SA also noted that the increase in total real value of recorded building plans passed slowed down. The value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities (at constant 2000 prices) during the first ten months of 2006 increased by 4.7%, or 1.70 billion rand, compared with the first ten months of 2005, slowing from 5.8% for the year to September 2006 compared with the year to September 2005.
 
The largest percentage increase was reported for non-residential buildings (+25.1%), followed by additions and alterations (+1.7%) and residential buildings (+0.3%).
 
The real value of building plans passed during October 2006 decreased by 3.6% compared with October 2005, Stats SA also noted.
 
The seasonally adjusted real value of recorded building plans passed by larger municipalities during the three months ended October decreased by 3.8% compared with the previous three months, continuing the declining trend as observed since the end of 2005, Stats SA said.
 
Decreases in the seasonally adjusted real value were reported for additions and alterations (-9.3%) and residential buildings (-2.9%), whereas the seasonally adjusted real value of non-residential building plans passed increased by 1.2% during the period.
 
Stats SA also indicated that the value of buildings reported as completed to larger municipalities (at current prices) during the first ten months of
2006 increased by 25.3% or 5.94 billion rand, compared with the first ten months of 2005, slowing from 35.7% for the year to October 2005 compared with the year to October 2004.
 
The largest percentage increase in the value of buildings completed was reported for additions and alterations (+32.8%), followed by residential buildings (+23.9%) and non-residential buildings (+22.9%).
