A R100m convenience shopping centre is to be built in Alberton to cater for residents of the town’s north and northwestern suburbs.

The 15000m² New Redruth Retail Park, which will be anchored by Pick ’n Pay and Woolworths Foods, will be next to the new 27000m² South African Revenue Service building, and is set to benefit from the retail spending of the 2000 staffers who work in the building.

The shopping centre is being developed by Flanagan & Gerard Property Consultants together with a consortium of private investors. Patrick Flanagan, of Flanagan & Gerard, says New Redruth Retail Park will be sold on at a later stage.

Flanagan says that at the moment regional shopping centre Alberton City fulfils a totally different function for the people of Alberton in that it is a destination shopping centre in the mould of an Eastgate or Sandton City.

The centre, which will be located on St Austell Street and bounded in the north by the N12 highway, is expected to open for trading next September.
