Commercial property association Sapoa has announced two new black appointments to its board of directors as part of its transformation plans.

Sapoa CEO Neil GopalBen Kodisang and Bobby Makwetla are both well known in the property industry. Kodisang recently replaced Ian Watt as MD of property giant Old Mutual Properties, while Makwetla was chairman of the City of Jo’burg Property Company.

Sapoa chief operating officer Neil Gopal said yesterday that women and previously disadvantaged individuals were "well represented" on the association’s six-member board.

The board also includes TC Chetty, Gopal and chairman and president Lynette Finlay.

Gopal said the Sapoa secretariat had been committed to transformation before the property charter process began.

Kodisang was also a founding member of an empowerment asset management company called Prodigy and former chief investment officer and director for African Harvest Fund Managers. He joined Old Mutual in 2002 as GM of employee benefits.

Makwetla is also chairman of Marafe, which owns 51% of ClearChannel in SA.
