Multi billion conglomerate Bidvest’s Bidserv subsidiary has bought three divisions of national residential property company, Trafalgar, to emerge as undisputed market leaders in the soft services property sector

It leaves Trafalgar with its core business of property management, letting and financial services. market segments within which it has traded for over thirty years and dominates.

Trafalgar MD Andrew Schaefer says soft property services are obvious black empowerment business "but we didn’t have the scale to have dedicated management leading this transformation. Trafalgar top management increasingly found ourselves diverted from our core business that also needs to be transformed and modernised. Importantly, Bidserv’s service ethic and track record in soft services ensures the continuity of service for our clients."

Trafalgar now has greater resources to invest in acquisitions and infrastructure in residential letting, management and related financial services. "The rental market should be worth over R15billion/ year by 2020, based on current growth projections and trends. A growing proportion of that rental supply will come from investors in small residential portfolios who are using property to ensure steady income for a future in which they want to be financially free. It is a complex market that in the UK, for instance, has grown about 15 times the size it was 10 years ago. And we want to help the SA version to similar growth.

Higher density development in our cities means that sectional title will be the most used form of property ownership and we must provide increasingly detailed and efficient service to that sector."
