NEW YORK - New York will rename 52 streets for victims of the September 11 attacks, the city's mayor announced yesterday.
"Even though over two years have passed since that tragic event, this action, although a modest gesture, will let it be known that the city will never forget those who perished that day," he said.
The renamed streets are in all five of the city's boroughs, bearing the names of both firefighters and civilians, such as aptain Walter G. Hynes Way in Queens, Firefighter Peter Louis Freund Avenue in Staten Island, and Andrew and Vincent Abate Way in Brooklyn.
Another 25 streets were renamed for the city's celebrities and benefectors, including a new Celia Cruz Boulevard in the Bronx.
