John Smit, Shaun Sowerby and Butch James add property to their many interests
Sharks players John Smit, Shaun Sowerby and Butch James have added property to their many interests, entering a R70m development deal with London-based associate Trevor Boynton and Durban developer Mark Taylor.

Taylor and his brother Peter of the eLan Property Group, are the creators of the Simbithi eco-estate in Ballito on the north coast.

The association between the Taylors and the Sharks syndicate was initiated by MWG Property Investments director Tony Matkovich, who secured the prime development sites on the estate for the rugby players.

The site includes a 180° panoramic view from Sheffield Beach to Umhlanga with breaker views down to Thompson's Bay.

The development, within the Simbithi development, will consist of 16 apartment-style units with four penthouses. These contemporary fourbedroom units will range in size from 250m² to 400m².

Contractors are expected on site in February with the development due for completion by December.

Each apartment will have its own rim-flow swimming pool on an extended deck and patio area.

Matkovich said the development epitomised Ballito's classy, beachfront, lock-up units.

The units will be priced from R2,5m.
