OCEANS Estates International, which is a global player and the most successful real estate company on Spain's southern coast, has opened a 560m2 office in the Clock Tower precinct of the V&A Waterfront. The managing director for South Africa, Brian Staples, says South Africa (and Cape Town in particular) has become a prime holiday destination as well as a popular place to buy a second home. "South Africa is currently seen as a safe tourist destination, with tourism up to a healthy 23% in 2002. So despite the rand's stabilisation against major international currencies, residential property in this country is still an attractive investment for foreign buyers," said Staples. "The recent success of the ICC Cricket World Cup and the coming President's Cup Golf Tournament in George have also helped to put South Africa on the world tourism map. "Since Ocean Estates is a major player in the property market in Europe, especially in the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca, we made a strategic decision to enter the market here and give South Africans and conversely Europeans, the benefit of our services and expertise. "Our company was established in Spain by Alasdair and Alice Macdonald in 1985. Our operation includes the residential resale market, new developments, investments in property and divisions specialising in commercial property and after sales service. "We are now able to offer the same services here with the advantage of it being a two-way process serving the South African investors who have the best possible introduction to properties in Spain and for the European investors to be introduced to local properties in South Africa, marketed and promoted in Spain and Europe, via our sales offices and extensive network." Ocean Estates International has employed a highly experienced team of agents and administrative staff to complement their Cape Town office. Members of the team will conduct workshops around the country, starting off with a roadshow along the Garden Route at the end of May. Ocean achieves an average of 250 sales a month in Spain and last year won the Mercedes-Benz five star international property award for Best Spanish Estate Agent, as well as Best Spanish Property - Las Bolas.
