The 38 000m² retail development by Zenprop Property Holdings generated in excess of R818 million of retail turnover for the first 12 months of trade.

Newcastle MallRetail figures peaked during December 2012 with a total spend of over a R100 million by the 625 413 visitors during this period.

Apart from the great trade during December, the mall has an average footfall of 445 655 per month supporting the 88 stores. The footfall peaks during weekends as the surrounding towns including Madadeni, Osizweni, Dundee, Utrecht, Vryheid, Volksrust and Ladysmith, frequent the mall for their monthly purchases and enjoy the safe and secure social and leisure environment.

The Mall is characterised by its high quality finishes and impeccable landscaping combined with an abundance of natural light, reducing lighting requirements and electricity consumption. An extensive use of natural materials represents the region’s rich and diverse cultural heritage ensuring the design and layout speaks to the community.

Newcastle is a fast growing manufacturing hub and continuous inward investment promises a sustainable economic environment for the Mall and its tenants. The Mall itself is contributing to the economic uplifting of the region by ensuring the direct and indirect employment of over 1500 local people.

Apart from direct employment all retailers ensure staff and management are based in Newcastle and surrounding areas. The Centre has also become the cornerstone for community activity through community consumer-centered and socially responsible marketing.

Zenprop intends to uphold Newcastle Mall as the dominant regional shopping Centre for the area and a future potential expansion of 20 000 m² will ensure current tenants and future retailers have access to this market.

Newcastle Mall is set to benefit from a number of regional investment projects being finalised or in the planning process to promote economic growth and job creation in the area.
