Butterworth in the Eastern Cape gets first shopping mall

Butterworth’s first ever shopping mall was officially opened, and it was abuzz with shoppers taking advantage of national outlets they never had access to before.

The much awaited Fingoland Mall was launched in Butterworth by pioneer businessman Dr Archie Nkonyeni. Giving his main address to religious leaders, business people and traditional leaders of Butterworth Nkonyeni said that the mall which will have about 100 shops once compelited is still on its second phase. He also said that 44 shops will offically open its doors tomorrow.

He praised two local business man Mthetheleli Ngumbela and Gcobani Nogoduka for not giving up on their dreams of building a mall for the community of Butterworth.

The multimillion rand Fingoland Mall is expected to boost the economy of the economically depressed Mnquma local municipality.

“The unemployment rate in the area is high. We hope the economy of Butterworth is stimulated to the level that thousands of jobs are created,” said Nogoduka.
