Midlands MallRoger Corlett, MD of Facilities Management for Liberty Properties, handles a property portfolio valued at about R12-billion, of which Liberty owns about 83%.

Liberty Properties leases, manages and administers 102 buildings countrywide, which are located in prime retail, office and industrial nodes. These include Sandton City, Greenacres, Eastgate and Alberton City.

Corlett says 60% to 70% of the portfolio is retail-based, about 15% is in hotels - including the Sandton Sun and Towers, and Holiday Inn Garden Court - and 15% in office blocks.

Liberty is building the Midlands Mall in Pietermaritzburg, a R290-million project of 42, 000m².

The group provides management of property, building and operational services and marketing. It has specialists responsible for standards and innovation at its Johannesburg head office, and seven operational teams.
