The BIBC has decided to publish the names of some of its worst offenders in an effort to raise awareness amongst financiers and private clients that engage with these contractors.

Building Industry Bargaining Council“In addition to the fact that it is illegal to operate in the building industry whilst non-compliant, non-compliance leads to unfair labour practices and unfair competition in the industry,” said Arnold Williams, Secretary for Building Industry Bargaining Council (Cape of Good Hope).

He continued saying, “The BIBC would like to appeal to those responsible for awarding contracts to ensure that they are awarding it to a law abiding compliant contractor.”

Having issued a warning a year ago, to take a tougher stance regarding non-compliant building contractors who continue to avoid or refuse to act in accordance with Collective Agreement that governs the industry, the BIBC is now carrying out its threat.

“Despite numerous efforts by the BIBC, certain contractors in the Building Industry constantly remain non-compliant or only become compliant when they are ‘caught in the act’,” said Williams.
