The development at Blue Route Mall, owned by Fountainhead Property Trust and managed by Broll Property Management, commenced three months ago. The project is well underway with the second phase of demolition, which included the demolition of the upper and lower parking decks as well as the Boardmans building adjacent to the Centre, now complete.
“The launch of the new and vastly improved Mall is set for 2012 and the professional team is currently working hard to ensure that we meet this ultimate goal,” explains Wendy Radford, Centre Manager of Blue Route Mall. “According to MLC Quantity Surveyors, 2.6 million bricks will be used to build the new building, together with 22,000m² of plaster, 60,000m² of screed, and 4,000 tonnes of steel – another Louis Karol spectacular!”
Radford noted that an estimated two million man hours will collectively be spent over the next two years to complete the development, taking into account that peak manpower on site is at approximately 1,000 workers. Another interesting statistic is that 100km of conduit and 10km of cable ladder will be used in the building process.
Prior to demolition, the Blue Route Mall team ensured, that where possible, internal fittings and other recycled materials, including carpet tiles, doors, wood panelling, glass, light fixtures, ceiling boards and shelves, were carefully set aside so that these could be donated to community projects.
“Plans to redevelop Blue Route Mall have been in the pipeline for a number of years, and with the final go-ahead having been received it has been full steam ahead for all involved,” says Radford. “2012 is really just around the corner, and we look forward to what will be the launch of an absolutely stunning new centre that caters for our loyal customers as well as inviting and welcoming new faces to enjoy a their new Blue Route Mall shopping experience.”
