A R12 million contract for the construction of a Woolworths store at Longbeach Mall in Sun Valley near Cape Town has been awarded to WBHO. In terms of the contract, WBHO is to construct the new building between the existing cinemas and Edgars in the mall.
The contract also involves the remodelling of four existing shops within the mall to create the entrance for Woolworths as well as the remodelling of the roof.
The interfacing with the existing buildings represents a challenge to the construction team which must also ensure that existing traders are unaffected by the work and that noise levels and inconvenience to shoppers are kept to a minimum.
The fast track contract calls for WBHO to have the building ready for shopfitting by the end of January and completed by the end of March.
The Longbeach Mall was completed just over a year ago by WBHO at a value of R105 million.
The company was also recently awarded a contract for the construction of the West Coast retail centre, north of Cape Town, at a value of R23 million.
