The recent ruling by the Supreme Court which states that the current owner can be held liable for any arrears in taxes, rates and other utilities incurred by past owners – going back up to 30 years – comes as a blow to the property market.

The latest ruling by the Supreme Court of Appeal relating to rates and taxes on a property is most concerning for property buyers and could have lasting implications regarding the risk of ownership.

Pick n Pay face R38m lawsuit in Mauritius

Pick n Pay is facing a R38m lawsuit in Mauritius where it stands accused of dodgy business practices over a failed store in the north of the holiday island.

The City of Johannesburg has won the right in the Supreme Court of Appeal to evict, because of safety and health concerns, more than 300 residents living in inner city buildings. This ends what was effectively a one-year ban on evictions in the city, pending the outcome of the case.

The Supreme Court on Friday 17th November sanctioned the Redefine Income Fund / Spearhead Property Holdings merger for which an overwhelming majority of the shareholders in both groups had already given their approval.  The merger is therefore now a fait accompli and Spearhead will delist from the JSE within the next week.
