Sun International to keep presence in Nigeria

Hotel and casino group Sun International will remain a committed investor in Nigeria despite run-ins with that country’s authorities.

The Competition Commission (Commission) has recommended to the Competition Tribunal (Tribunal) that the proposed merger whereby Sun International (South Africa) Limited (SISA) intends to acquire Maxshell 114 Investment (Pty) Ltd (Maxshell) be prohibited.

Work is now underway in earnest at Sun International’s latest project – a major development in Pretoria’s eastern suburbs.

Sun International’s legendary Sun City in the North West Province is in the throes of an R800-million refurbishment to revitalise its iconic appeal and ensure that it retains its rightful place as South Africa’s entertainment mecca and one of the most exciting leisure destinations in the world.

Gaming company Sun International confirms clearing the last obstacle in its bid to relocate its struggling Morula casino licence to an entertainment centre at Menlyn in Tshwane.

Transnet on Tuesday concluded an innovative partnership with Africa’s largest tourism, leisure and gaming group Sun International, as the state-owned freight and logistics company accelerates its drive to include the private sector in its operations.

A proposed reshuffle of casino ownership in the Western Cape market, which would have secured gaming and hotel giant Tsogo Sun a hand, is taken off the table.

Sun International pulls out all the cost- cutting stops to offset tough trading conditions in its SA market but is tripped up by a poor start at its new casino in Panama and foreign exchange losses in Nigeria.

Sun International earnings rise due to disposal of shareholdings outside South Africa expects for the year ended 30 June 2015.
