After 18 months and much negotiation between the City of Johannesburg and property owners, SAPOA has decided to withdraw its appeal against the Johannesburg Consolidated Town Planning Scheme 2011.

Concerned about slow development processes in the Western Cape, the South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) has commissioned a ground-breaking study into the value of the private property sector in the province – and the economic costs of inefficient property development processes.

Already provided for in existing provincial legislation, a Service Appeal Tribunal would allow property developers to appeal decisions made by municipalities, and obtain independent resolution in such matters.

The sudden stoppage of building plan approvals in the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality is causing serious concern in the commercial and industrial property sector, with the SA Property Owners’ Association (SAPOA) quick to raise a red flag concern about the situation.

South African property sector delivered an improved 9.2% total return for the first six months in 2013

South Africa’s listed property sector soared 5% during the week ending 13 September 2013, significantly outperforming both the equity and bond markets.

SAPOA is at the vanguard of a new initiative to create global property measurement standards for property investors and users alike as part of the International Property Measurement Standards Coalition (IPMSC).

SA property sector welcomes Limpopo clean-up

The South African Property Owners Association (SAPOA) has welcomed the latest changes in the Limpopo Provincial Government - a province where it is continually tackling property issues with a negative impact on the commercial and industrial sector.

The Green Building Council SA (GBCSA) has taken up residence at its inspired new green office at the Blackriver Park complex in Observatory, Cape Town.

Land reform in South Africa needs to be addressed, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of food security or by breaking up economically efficient enterprises.
