DTI sets aside R80m for industrial parks

The Department of Trade and Industry (dti) has set aside R80 million for the refurbishment and resuscitation of the country’s industrial parks.

Ten potential special economic zones, at least one in each province, had been identified and would be subjected to feasibility studies in the coming months, Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies said in Parliament Friday.

GOVERNMENT has revealed that it is considering a possible reconfiguration of the mooted $2,2bn aluminium smelter at Coega to attract other investors should Canadian group Alcan decide not to pursue the project.

Alcan, the world's second-largest producer of aluminium, would decide in June whether to go ahead with plans to build a $2 billion (R12.8 billion) smelter near Port Elizabeth, it said yesterday
