The National and Western Cape Department of Human Settlements, together with its agency, the Social Housing Regulatory Agency (SHRA), recently launched the Anchorage Social Housing Project in Glenhaven, in the Western Cape.

Having exhausted all other options to rectify ongoing service delivery issues from the Estate Agency Affairs Board (EAAB), the Real Estate Business Owners of South Africa (REBOSA) has officially engaged in legal action against the regulator.

The Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu has issued a clarion call to potential investors including the banking institutions to assist government’s efforts in meeting the demand for social housing units by investing into social housing projects. Sisulu says the investment opportunities are spread across the country’s metros. 

In a thought-provoking virtual seminar hosted today, over 200 industry stakeholders joined the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) Investment Seminar to discuss the urgent solutions needed to address South Africa’s high-density social housing challenges and revitalise the country’s economy.

Minister of Human Settlements, Water & Sanitation, the Honourable Lindiwe Sisulu will address the Social Housing Regulatory Authority (SHRA) Investment Seminar taking place virtually this coming Wednesday, 30 September 2020 highlighting the strategic role of social housing in the Human Settlements portfolio.

Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation Minister, Lindiwe Sisulu, has declared 136 priority human settlements and housing development areas (PHSHDAs) across the country.

Sisulu calls for a suspension of evictions

The Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu, has appealed to municipalities and private property owners to suspend evictions during the current lockdown as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Government has identified 17 land parcels for resettlement purposes for people who stay in informal settlements should the need arise, as the country deals with the spread of COVID-19.

The Department of Human Settlements has kick-started a series of national public information sessions to ensure that more South Africans become accustomed to the content and purpose of the draft regulations to give effect to the Property Practitioners Act.

The Ministry of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation has clarified its position on several media reports relating to the appointment of Mo Shaik and Advocate Menzi Simelane as special advisors.
