R1bn debt: City to seize buildings

The Joburg Council is owed close to R1 billion in unpaid rates and taxes by inner-city property owners whose buildings are in shambles.

The City of Joburg Property Company (JPC), the property arm of the City of Johannesburg, is calling for proposals from developers for the development of Newtown’s Transport House into a multipurpose indoor-event venue.

City of Joburg Property Company (JPC) has released a list of 28 buildings identified in its Better Buildings Programme (BBP) for reinvestment and redevelopment by the private sector.

The City (of Johannesburg) auctioned off a prime site situated on Comartie Road in Hurlingham, near Sandton, for a whopping R23,9m, double its reserve price of R10,3m.
