Four key trends driving retail in 2015

Retail has become a stage for change, innovation and disruption.

The South African Council of Shopping Centres (SACSC) is promoting and facilitating the ICSC's internationally recognised certifications to South African professionals.

The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), the global trade association for the shopping centre industry, has launched an African research group to help its membership tap into the economic growth potential across the continent.

A significant collaboration and cooperation agreement will see South Africa’s shopping centre and retail industry gain greater access to global insights and resources. It will also open up local shopping to the world.

The survey found that almost a quarter of consumers plan to spend more (19%) or substantially more (5%) on holiday gifts this year versus last year.

Chatsworth Shopping Centre in Durban, which is owned by Sanlam Life Insurance and managed by JHI Properties, was recently globally acknowledged for a community project initiated by the centre management to raise awareness among schoolchildren of the serious effects of drug use. The prestigious award was presented to the centre by the International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC) for ‘Sugars, The Bitter Truth’ - a comic book addressing the dangers of ‘sugars’, the street name given to a drug which is a highly addictive and even lethal combination of heroin and cocaine
