Sandton buildings are going green

A hundred years ago Sandton was considered the 'market garden' of Johannesburg, about 50 years later Sandton is described as a 'community of 30,000 whites and 15,000 horses'.

A new comprehensive report recently released from the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC), highlights that there are a large number of compelling benefits from green buildings received by different stakeholders throughout the life cycle of a building.

Bryprop, one of Johannesburg’s niche sectional title property development firms, is enhancing its focus on sustainability, an area expected to deliver both cost savings and greater comfort for building occupants, as well as revenue-generating opportunities in the market.

The Property Council/IPD Australian Green Property Index, released this morning, showed an annual total return of 10.6% for Green Star rated, and 9.9% for NABERS rated office assets for 2012.

The office complex, which cost more than R2bn to build, will house about 5,000 client-facing employees and is expected to create economic spin-offs in Rosebank, Johannesburg.
