The Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) has made an ambitious commitment to introduce a net zero/positive building certification scheme by 2020, and six more meaningful goals, at COP21 in Paris today.

Giuricich Bros Construction – a leading South African independent and family owned construction firm – has increased its presence in the retail development sector by securing the lucrative building contracts for the new 45,000m² Springs Mall at Blue Crane Eco Park and the 15,000m² expansion of the well-established Vaal Mall.

Young environmental innovators from the University of Cape Town scooped both first and second prizes in the inaugural Growthpoint Greenovate Awards, which recognise innovation linked to environmental challenges.

A landmark new R157 million green office development by Growthpoint Properties in Umhlanga’s booming Ridgeside precinct is nearing completion and has become Durban’s first 5-Star Green Star SA rated building.

With the Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) certifying the first housing projects in the country using the EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) residential green building tool, currently in pilot phase, the council is now set for a major rollout of green building ratings in SA’s residential property sector.

South Africa’s top rated Green Star SA buildings and leading green building professionals were announced in the Green Star SA Leadership Awards 2015 at the annual Green Building Convention in Cape Town.
