The construction industry has historically been essential in building the country.

Despite global doom and gloom, Stats SA in their latest gross domestic product (GDP) report, state that the construction industry in South Africa reportedly grew at a rate of 11.2% in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) are the lifeblood of South Africa's economy.

Iconic Sandton building given a facelift

Since 2016 the City of Johannesburg has embarked on an ambitious programme to renovate its iconic but dilapidated buildings throughout its suburbs, and while the 3 Alice Lane building was renovated by its owner, it continued this familiar trend of restoring older buildings in the City. 

When South Africa went into a hard lockdown on 27 March, government’s aim was to use the time to ramp up the readiness of healthcare facilities and hospitals around the country in preparation of the expected COVID-19 peak.

Gonzalo Prieto of Ruben Reddy Architects said the aim was to make the building as energy efficient as possible to cut down on future costs.
