Amid continuing global economic uncertainty, South Africa continues to experience growth and has weathered the storm with a stable fiscus
Real gross domestic product (GDP) eased to 1.2% in the third quarter, the lowest since the second quarter of 2009, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA)
The Gross Domestic Product for the third quarter is expected to come in lower than the growth seen in the second quarter, largely due to recent industrial action in the mining sector.

With economic growth slowing and formal employment levels still below their pre-crisis 2008 peak, widespread labour unrest is exacerbating the country’s cyclical and structural economic imbalances, threatening to stop the hesitant recovery in private sector employment in its tracks, and to worsen South Africa’s already-sclerotic growth
The gross domestic product (GDP) in South Africa expanded 3,2% in the second quarter of 2012, q/q (SAAR) from a previous 2,7% for Q1 2012.
Last year it saw growth skyrocketing, influenced largely by the launch of oil production at its Jubilee oil field in November, sending GDP soaring by nearly 15 percent. But that growth rate is expected to nearly halve to 8.2 percent this year as oil production has averaged 80,000 bpd as opposed to the 250 000bpd that was anticipated for 2013. Either way it’s all growth and the spinoff for the rest of the economy is worth taking notice of
Namibia is the 15th largest country in Africa with a population of just over two million people; this makes it the second least densely populated country in the world after Mongolia. With a per capita GDP of $7363.00 (7th in Africa) one would think the population isn’t doing too badly, however, given that approximately half the population live below the international poverty line of U.S.$1.25 a day, that picture alters
The retail and wholesale sector is already the second largest contributor to the GDP (gross domestic product) of Namibia
