The launch of the next green building rating tool by the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA), the Green Star SA - Public & Education Building Rating Tool (version 1), is set to take place at the GBCSA Convention and Exhibition, at the CTICC from 23 – 25 October 2012

The Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) has launched the PILOT Energy and Water Benchmarking tool for the commercial property industry, which allows property owners to see how their building’s consumption measures up to industry norms

A new course that the GBCSA is offering will train attendees on how to use the Multi Unit Residential (MURT) Green Star SA rating tool which objectively measures the environmental performance of design, and construction, phases of new and refurbished multi unit residential buildings

the new Socio-economic tool that the Green Building Council of South Africa are starting to develop that will address issues such as poor health, lack of education and skills training – socio-economic priorities in SA and other developing countries 

The Millennia Park office building has achieved a 5 Star Green Star SA Office v1 ‘Design’ certification from the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) – the first time that a refurbished building in South Africa has received this accolade. The building - the new head office for investment giant Remgro, which sought a new location for its increased staff complement following a merge with Venfin, in 2009 - now houses about 120 staff members, who moved into the building in early May, after the refurbishment was completed in April

As experienced in the United Kingdom, the introduction of green leases, tends to stimulate healthy debate, predominantly around the allocation of costs for environmental improvements. The Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA) has co-developed the Green Lease Toolkit together with the South African Property Owners’ Association (SAPOA) and this was was officially announced and launched at the 44th SAPOA International Convention & Property Exhibition, in Durban on the 30th of May 2012
