Following the significant shift towards remote and hybrid work models in recent years,
Sandton Central is experiencing a resurgence as it adapts to the evolving needs and
requirements of office tenants.

From 2010, when Nedbank completed its headquarters on the corner of Rivonia Road and Maude Street to become the country’s first Green Building Council South Africa (GBCSA) Green Star-certified building, Sandton Central has remained on the cutting edge of green building practices on the African continent.

It will be lights out for Sandton Central, Joburg's premier business, shopping and tourism centre this weekend when many of its buildings will power-down for an hour on Saturday (25 March) to help address climate change.

Nearly half of all the office development taking place in South Africa right now is happening in Sandton. Sandton Central is the epicentre of this development, which includes many of the most cutting-edge, exciting and innovation new buildings on the continent.

Sandton Central, without doubt, has become the most important business and financial node in South Africa, and plausibly sub-Saharan Africa.

Highlighting Sandton Central’s position as not only SA’s financial hub – but a major center for business tourism, leisure and conferencing, Joburg Tourism has moved its head office from Rosebank to the landmark Sandton Library on Nelson Mandela Square.

Road construction underway in the Sandton CBD is set to continue for most of 2016 with the City of Johannesburg investing R180 million in massive improvements to roads and pavements in Sandton Central - SA’s cosmopolitan financial and commercial hub.

Keeping traffic flowing even when the power goes out, Sandton Central Management District (SCMD) has sponsored uninterrupted power supply (UPS) units for traffic signals at six key intersections in the Sandton CBD, to the value of nearly half a million rand.

The number of people using public and alternative transport into Sandton has grown since the official launch of the EcoMobility World Festival.
