Eskom reconfiguration set in motion

Work is afoot on reconfiguring the South African electricity sector by addressing challenges faced by Eskom, with the board of the first subsidiary of the power utility to be appointed by mid-2019, Treasury said on Wednesday.

Re-rating on the cards for SA REIT sector

South Africa’s real estate investment trust (SA REIT) sector is heading for a re-rating; the question is whether the sector will rally this year or next?

The value of outstanding credit balances in the South African household sector increased by 5,7% to R1 630,2 billion in 2018 after rising by 3,8% in 2017.

Private sector-financed building activity (see explanatory note) in the South African market for new housing remained subdued in the first eleven months of 2018, based on data released by Statistics South Africa.

Although the Camps Bay market has responded predictably to the prevailing socio-economic climate with lower sales volumes across the board, it has proven more resilient than most comparable areas this year with a 1.88% increase in the average house price and a diminishing gap between asking and selling prices.
