The Mantis Collection, which owns a string of luxury lodges including the Shamwari game reserve near Port Elizabeth, has sold its stake in the Bushman Sands Hotel and Golf Estate at Alicedale to River Hotels.

This includes the four-star hotel which boasts comfortably appointed rooms, spacious dining areas and conference facilities as well as spa facilities and the popular Gary Player-designed 18-hole golf course.

The new owners started operating the resort at the beginning of this month.

The group said it regarded the transaction as positive for the resort and the community of Alicedale as River Hotels was ideally positioned to take the resort and hotel to the high level of success of its other resort interests.

Other resorts owned and operated by River Hotels are the three-star Halyards Hotel on the waterfront of the Royal Alfred Marina and the four-star Royal Guest House in Port Alfred, the three-star Tsitsikamma Lodge on the Garden Route and five-star Tenahead Mountain Lodge and Reserve, South Africa‘s highest mountain lodge at about 2 600 metres above sea level, which is at the apex of Naudé‘s Nek near the Tiffindell Ski Resort.

The Eastern Cape Development Corporation has been involved in the resort and golf estate development along with the Mantis Group since inception in 2004.
