The Master Builders and Allied Trades Association, Western Cape has recently elected its new Executive Committee Members for 2004

Rob JohnsonThe Master Builders and Allied Trades Association, Western Cape has recently elected its new Executive Committee Members for 2004, the demographic make-up of which is indicative of the transformation that the MBA has undergone in recent years. "The Western Cape region of the MBA has actively promoted the ideal of representation on the Executive Committee, to reflect the demographics of our Industry in the Western Cape," says Rob Johnson, director of the MBA Western Cape. He continues by saying that this transformation has occurred naturally and is due to the respect that the newly elected members have gained from their colleges.

The current President, Gavin Roberts, is in his second term of office, and the newly elected Vice President, Stephen Arrow is the continuation of a process of natural transformation on merit. The shift which has taken place in the MBA is in-keeping with the changes that the building industry has seen over the past couple of years, however it is evident that delegates are not only elected on the basis of their skin colour, but more importantly, for their capabilities and distinct contribution to the Association.

The main objective of the committee, and the MBA, is to add value to their members’ businesses. The committee commits to creating awareness of the benefits of using MBA members among the public, while ensuring that their members adhere to the high standards of workmanship and apply just and honorable practices in their conduct. They also exercise a significant influence on those who regulate the affairs of the industry to ensure that the interests of their members are properly promoted. Furthermore they have committed to continue engaging with those presently outside the ranks, of their membership, who are from historically disadvantaged communities. This is with a view to them joining their ranks as members, which will assist them to further their business careers and opportunities in an extremely challenging environment.
