Johannesburg - One & Only Resorts, the hotel group run by Sol Kerzner and his son, Butch, is reported to be close to concluding a deal with the Inanda Club in Sandton.

The deal is expected to involve a relatively small development on or adjacent to the club's cricket field. It is likely to be the first project to be completed by One & Only in South Africa. The plan appears to be to create a stop-off facility for international tourists on their way from Europe or the US to a One & Only resort in one of South Africa's game reserves.

In what will be a break from the usual Sandton tradition, the planned Inanda development will have an African theme. As one Inanda club member remarked: "In between the mock Tudor, the mock Tuscany and the mock Riviera, we are now going to have mock African."

The development will have a number of exclusive "game lodges" designed to give tourists something of a feel for the African safari adventure that lies ahead. But the Kerzners are keen to maintain the polo facilities and to incorporate them in the African adventure for their guests, who will be among the world's wealthiest holidaymakers.

The group already has resorts in Mauritius, the Maldives, the Bahamas, Dubai and Mexico.

On Friday the group announced a partnership with Moss Mashishi and his new company, Matemeku Investments. Mashishi was chief executive of the Johannesburg World Summit Company, Moribo Leisure and SA Tourism.
