An entire 58 hectare wine farm in Hermanus goes on auction. The property, Hemelzicht, is situated in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley adjacent to the main route between Hermanus and Caledon

Auction AllianceThe estate goes on auction 11 June at 11am.

The appropriately named Hemel-en-Aarde region (meaning ‘’where heaven meets earth’’) is an enchanting valley in close proximity to the sea receiving cool maritime winds. The wine route is fast becoming a popular wine destination due to its spectacular views, brilliant restaurants and international award-winning wines. The wines produced in this region have been compared to those from Northern France due to the cool sea breeze and clay soil. This, along with the maritime climate and right soil composition, has attracted award-winning wine makers from across the country.

Hemelzicht, a portion of the farm Hemel-en-Aarde, boasts 16 ha of vines producing impressive Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay situated on soft slopes of mainly sandstone soil. The balance of land on the farm has already been cleared and is suitable for further cultivation. The vineyard can be broken up as follows: 5.2 ha of Sauvignon Blanc, 1.7ha of Chardonnay, 3.5 ha of Shiraz, 1.5 ha of Malbeck, 4.1 ha of Cabernet Sauvignon.

Comments Willie van Rensburg of Auction Alliance, ‘’Statistics show that land values are on the increase making this a fantastic investment opportunity. The new owner will be welcomed to an ‘exclusive club’ as the area boasts names such as Hamilton-Russel, Bouchard-Finlaysons, Newton-Johnsons, G.T Ferreira, Giles Webb to name a few.

The land receives sufficient irrigation from three dams as well as a mountain stream and the Onrus River. The valley also offers some of the coolest terriors in the country and is eminently suitable for the cultivation of premium wine cultivars.

The property falls within the new ward of Upper Hemel-en-Aarde valley.
