“It was one of the strongest auctions we have had to date with spirited bidding, a high confirmation rate and a huge attendance figure.
“The two central Johannesburg buildings were the standout lots, attracting 10 registered buyers.
“It was a fantastic day and it bodes well for our May auction,” it said.
SA Centre, a 12-storey building at 253 Bree Street, long a sought-after business address, offers a gross lettable area of 6500m². It has a 70% occupancy rate and income of R2,9m a year.
It was sold and confirmed for R13,1m, described by auctioneer Joff van Reenen as “a cracker of a sale”.
Pan African House, with a gross lettable area of 10500m² and an income of R2,5m a year at 77 Troye Street, was confirmed for R12,161m. Built in the 1950s, this was the first time it was on the market.
Not as prominent, but nevertheless in a prime position, is 147 Jeppe Street which fetched R2,7m.
Among other attractive lots were prime properties in Halfway House, Randburg, Melville, Illovo, Greenside, Lonehill, Observatory and Kyalami.
Out of town properties were on offer in Boksburg, Vereeniging, Marble Hall and Reitz in eastern Free State where a game farm came under the hammer.
The farm has nearly 400 head of game and a river frontage of 6km.
Another property that was confirmed at the fall of the hammer was a retail and residential block in Greenside that sold for R4m.
Industrial premises on Gallagher Avenue Halfway House, of 3000m², accommodating 24 mini-industrial units, fetched R8m.
Heila Plaza, and retail and residential block, close to the Randburg civic centre, was knocked down for R6,5m.
The building has 12 flats, 10 retail outlets and an income of R1,6m a year.
Mini office and industrial units in a complex in Kyalami covering 300m² and an income of R1,45m a year fetched R8m.
Two Main Road properties in Melville were on offer: Jacaranda Court with 24 flats and seven retail outlets, received a top bid of R10,5m.
Number 6 Main Road, a building of 16 flats, nine retail outlets, of 1581m² and an income of R1,38m a year fetched R6,425m.
In Vereeniging a fully let commercial centre with 9 retail shops was knocked down for R3m and a showrooms in Boksburg for R1m.
Number 16 Thora Crescent in the Wynberg central business district, with a gross lettable area of 1683m² received a bid of R3,7m.
The residential property auction generated much excitement.
A 1000m² mansion on five levels in Ville d’Afrique, Hartbeesport received a floor price of R9,8m.
Another stately home on Linksfield Ridge, built by the present owner in 1964, fetched R4,8m.
