Game City Shopping Centre in Greyville, Durban, is undergoing a R15 million make-over to modernise the interior and exterior of the building and improve parking

Growthpoint Properties Limited, the owners of this 42,200 sqm retail shopping centre, will also rename the building ‘City View’, given the spectacular 360 degree views of the city from the top of the building.

Game City is anchored by leading national retail tenants Game and Shoprite which, together with other top retailers the likes of Mr Price, Truworths, Legit and Clicks, that benefit from the centre’s location in the prime office and retail node at the lower end of Morningside. Game City is also superbly positioned within five minutes of the CBD, the beach front, M4 Highway and Berea.

“Game City’s prime location gives this centre immense potential. As owners we are therefore keen to ensure that its potential is maximised through excellent aesthetics and optimal access and that the centre complements the surrounding area,” says Greg Worst, Assistant Regional Manager of Growthpoint Properties, Durban.

The redevelopment will take place in strategic stages to ensure that its retailers are able to trade while the upgrading of the property takes place.

The building, which was originally built in 1985 and last upgraded in 1996, is set to receive numerous exterior and interior enhancements. Exterior changes include modernising the façade, new signage, an extension and reconfiguration of the front parking area, a new entrance canopy, repaved walkways and landscaping.

Once complete, the interior will feature completely refurbished toilets, new improved lighting, re- painted ceilings and walls, new flooring and new signage.

“The revamp, which started in August, is scheduled for completion at the beginning of December, in time for the busy festive season,” notes Worst.

The new-look centre will also sport a new name; City View. The building offers incredible views over the Durban CBD, the Moses Mabhida stadium, the beach front, Berea and Morningside suburbs. This offers wonderful appeal to both prospective tenants and shoppers. The name also acknowledges the many customers who travel via the city to this centre.
